Helping Hands Bags

Picture
In 2016, Max's Meals began providing a Helping Hands Bag to bone marrow transplant patients and their families at their initial discharge from the hospital.  These bags are intended to provide caregivers with some helpful items and encouragement during what our "experienced families" found to be one of the most difficult times of the journey.  They are given to the family by the Child Life or Social Workers at Cincinnati Children's and include the following items:
  • A $25 Visa gift card for food or whatever you may need as you make this transition.
  • Press & Seal for port/central line coverage.
  • Plastic bags (large and small) for medication storage, etc.
  • Pill organizer for daily medication storage.
  • Small timer for line cleaning, etc.
  • Flashlight for use at the bedside at night.
  • Notebook and pens/pencils to log medication, issues, questions, etc.
  • Thermometer for checking your child’s temperature.
  • Hand sanitizer & disinfecting wipes – we know how important staying clean and germ free is!
  • A book of inspirational quotes.

We are currently piloting these bags with the bone marrow transplant population and hope to expand them to all Cancer & Blood Disease Institute patients soon.
