Max’s Meals has partnered with the Social Workers at Cincinnati Children’s, Cancer & Blood Diseases Institute (CBDI) to offer Coffee & Dessert gatherings once a month in the hospital.  The sessions are staffed with “experienced” parents from CBDI and are open to all CBDI caregivers, either inside or outside the hospital.  A brief background of each of the “experienced” parents is below.

Kristi:  Kristi’s son, Max was 7 when he underwent a bone marrow transplant from his perfectly matched baby sister, Ellee in April, 2009 for treatment of Severe Aplastic Anemia.  Today he is an active 15 year old, back at school, playing sports and going strong.

Mary Beth:  Mary Beth’s son, Matthew was 12 when he underwent a bone marrow transplant in December, 2008 for treatment of Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH).   Today he is an active 21 year old, attending college!

Rita:  Rita’s daughter, Natalie was 17 when she was diagnosed with MDS and AML in December, 2008. Natalie’s case was very rare and challenging.  She received a BMT on 9/8/09 and, although it went perfectly, she relapsed in early November and passed away on November 20, 2009. Natalie’s will to live and her memory continue to inspire every day.   Natalie, a talented drummer and musician, will be forever the beat in our hearts.

Kim:  Kim’s son, Kevin was 15 when he was diagnosed with ALL (acute lymphocytic leukemia).  He is now 29, and currently in the Survivorship Program at Children’s Hospital.

Dee:  Dee’s son, Mitch was 11 when he was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor (PNET) in February, 2009.  He underwent radiation therapy for 31 days, high dose chemotherapy and stem cell rescue.  Today he is a healthy, active, growing 20 year old.

Sue:  Sue and Larry’s daughter, Tillie was 20 months old when she was diagnosed with ALL (acute lymphocytic leukemia) in 2005.  She underwent treatment and got through it just fine.  She relapsed in November 2009.  She is now 13 years old and again has completed treatment.

Rosemary:  Rosemary’s grand-daughter ‘Madison’ was 15 months old when she was diagnosed with AML (acute myelogenous leukemia).  She received a bone marrow transplant on February 8, 2013.  She relapsed on April 10, 2013 and sadly passed away on April 22, 2013.  “Madi Girl” as she called herself will live on through GrandMa Loves Madi inc.
